Round 5 - Anglesey (3 hrs)

Sunday 26th June - TDI Classification

Costal circuit

Sunday’s race saw Team Honeywell take the lead early on from third on the grid and the now the familiar battle with 101 and 207 ensued, with only a four second gap over 101 at the penultimate pitstop.

Team Honeywell pulled off a quick stop and pulled out a strong gap as 101 suffered mechanical issues.

Neil Plimmer, said: “The car was fantastic and had much better straight line speed. We hadn’t altered anything overnight, so can only think that the track had ‘come to us’, although the pitstops and strategy were perfect. Thankyou to our team and a special thank you to ‘little Rick’ from JPR, for the standard of preparation and set up.”

It was Greensall and Thomas on the second step of the podium, taking home their second trophy of the weekend for JPR/Racelogic, in car 101.

In 3rd, it was Track Torque’s Tim Hartland and Neil Primrose. The team went into the second race of the weekend, feeling that it was about time something went right. In race one, the engine was badly damaged and had to be replaced and to top it all, the 211 car had a 22nd place grid draw for race two.

Hartland took the start and barely survived the opening lap, taking to the grass to narrowly avoiding spinning cars on the approach to Rocket. The car bounced back onto the circuit unscathed, only to have another near miss a lap later, as a couple of cars collided on the straight, scattering the following group, as they tried to predict where the spinning cars would end up.

After that, it was a case of finding a groove and working steadily up the field to hand the car over to Primrose in 5th place. Primrose, exited under safety car conditions and in a session with only a handful of racing laps, picked off another car to hand the car back in 4th place.

Hartland had a largely uneventful 3rd stint pulling one more place to 3rd. The job now was to haul in the 2nd placed 101 car, but with a splitter missing, the car was understeering badly and with a heavy vibration under braking, it became a struggle just to hold the gap, let alone close it.

Finally, however, in the last round of stops “the bread landed jam side up” according to Hartland and for the first time that weekend, the 101 car had a slow stop, elevating the 211 car to 2nd place, which Primrose held to the flag for a fine result after a difficult couple of days for the team.

Nigel Greensall was the fastest man again, setting a 1.21.454

The Jolly Roger crew was most definitely on a roll at Anglesey, taking a one-two finish in the petrol class.

Andrew Beverly and Simon Isbister were joined by Ben Gill who took the victory in 111, while their team mates Mark Jaffray and Mike Humphries took home 2nd place in their sister 257 car.

In the second race, on Sunday, Beverley and Isbister were joined by Gill in 111.

The first session started badly, with Humphreys in 257 forced into a little spin whilst avoiding 101’s brief lock-up as it dived up the inside into Rocket on the first lap. This put 257 at the back of the petrol field, but also forced Beverley in 111 to go off circuit in avoiding its sister car.

Both cars were then towards the back of the petrol class at the end of the first lap. From there, things ran smoothly for both cars, with 111 building a twenty second lead after the first session.

Excellent, consistent, driving helped push the lead out to over a lap and the leading position was never threatened except when Gill unavoidably hit 103 as it spun at Rocket. Despite a fair bit of damage, the pace of 111 was not really affected and Isbister brought it home for Jolly Roger Racing’s first win and by over a lap.

Humphreys and Jaffray in 257, meanwhile, had been consistently quick and smooth, pushing through into 2nd place. In the final session, 88 was pushing hard in 3rd, but in the end Jaffray held on comfortably for 2nd and the team’s first one – two finish.

Andrew Beverley, said: “We clearly enjoy Anglesey, as this is where we got our first podium last year, but that result paled by comparison with the three podiums of this year.”

In 3rd place, JPR/Ecurie Escargot finished their weekend on a high, taking home another trophy with a 3rd place finish.

JPR/Roomguide.co.uk set the fastest lap in car 103, with a 1.23.046
